기독교계 등에서는 구체적인 과세 기준과 절차에 대한 준비부족 종교과세로의 변질 가능성 등을 고려해 시행을 늦춰야 한다는 주장이지만, 다른 한편에서는 납세의무 실현을 위해서라도 예정대로 시행되어야 한다는 지적도 함께 제기되고 있다.
